There are many distinctions between high school and college. Many of these differences deal with freedom and the impact these schools have on life. Both of these have just as much importance. High school is important because it gives the fundamentals for college. Also high school is a requirement to have to get into college. College is important because it gives the steps to a profession. College is not only a preparation for a future profession but it is the door to the future. College provides classes that are the stepping stones to a great job.  Unlike high school, college is not a preparation for a school. Also college does not only deal with professions but also allows more freedom, such as the privilege to dress the way the students want and the right to smoke. College also supplies the chance for students to pick the time for their classes, what day they attend it, and what they attend. However, there is only one down fall to college and that is the cost. High school might have not cost anything but supplies, but it’s worth paying to ensure the future. College also has a more of a fast paced system then the high school. High school has seven to eight classes that are taught for a whole year for a whole fifty minutes a class. Yet college is taught one semester per set of classes. Classes can range to fifty minutes to three hours long and students can have twelve or more hours a semester. In high school students find they are babied by their teachers. Teachers in high school push students more harshly to attend classes and to do their work. In college some professors push their students to attend class and do their work, but some professors expect their students to be responsible and do what they need to. In college the main thing is professors treat their students on the same level as themselves. In addition to that, some teachers in high school favor some students more than others and let them slip by with grades they did not earn. With college there are no favorites to my knowledge. Another distinction to college is there is more access to professors other than just class. The professors provide a syllabus that has personal contact information so that the student can ask questions about missed work or find out information about the assignment. That information will end up saving a grade and provide great help to the student. However in high school students miss out on this great opportunity and chance.
