In today’s society there are a lot
of options on entertainment. There are many things to keep busy with such as ipods, computers, cell phones, and the most important
one is television. Television is not only entertainment it is relaxation. Television is also a pure addiction to most people
because it is what starts the day and ends it. For instance when my mom gets up in the morning, she has to have a cup of coffee
and some TV before heading to work. When she returns from work she relaxes in front of it to watch her favorite channel HGTV.
I am not saying she is addicted to it but it is a main source of quick entertainment for her.
Some people might consider TV as a source of bad news and
a waste of a good mind. Kual is one of these people and has stated what he thinks because he believes TV is exactly that.
He wrote in his column “TV engages the imagination, not the mind.” This clearly points out that he is incorrect
because imagination is using the mind.
Kual also compared television to a sewer pipe that leaks
swage in to the house and shortens the child’s life. Kual stated that television was also child abuse. When it comes
to children and television it can be a real learning experience. TV offers many learning programs and a great line of video
games system to plug in and learn from. These television programs supply reading and many various things to cater to the learning
process. Not all television is bad, and the programs that are, can be blocked to ensure the positive effects TV can supply.
In addition to that, if the situation of too much television
comes into play, there is a solution. To my knowledge there is a television program that allows the children to watch only
a certain time period of TV. Another solution is plain old fashion parenting. These situations always have solutions.
In Kual column he adds that children will see crimes and
think that they have a chance of being the victim. Like Stated before the parents will not allow these programs to be view.
Even if the child did see these programs, it might be a wake up call to them to be aware that this world is not a safe place.
So when Kual thinks that this is a bad thing it really is not because they need to know instead of pretending that this world
is a fairy tale and every thing is fine. These issues need to be seen. Not saying, sit them down and watch a movie where every
second there is a gory murder scene. The parents should show them a program that will make them aware of what can happen.
For example, a program that shows them about taking candy from a stranger is dangerous and many other scenarios.
TV should be allowed, simply for the positive effects and
the right to have a little bit of enjoyable entertainment. Even if most shows might consist of fantasy, that’s what entertainment is all about.

actually become a great learning tool for children. TV offers many educational programs such as; “Blue’s Clues”,
and “Dora the Explorer”. A great line of video games system such as leap frog and others. These television programs and games, supply reading, and many various educational programs to cater to the
learning process. TV can also be informative like the evening news. Not all television is bad, and the programs that are,
can be blocked to ensure the positive effects TV can supply.
In addition to that, if the situation of too much television comes
into play, there is a solution. To my knowledge there are several television menu options that allow the parents to set a
time limit on the TV. Child block is also another form of protecting children from unsuitable programming. Another solution
is plain old fashion parenting.
