Freedom of Education

When one hears the word education, every person has one thing come to mind and that is the amount of time spent in school. Is it spent well or is it a waste of time? Holt, an expert in education thinks that all the time spent in class is not necessary. Holt thinks that students should decide how much time is spent in class, when and what time they attend school. Holt also states that students should have the right to also decide what classes they want to take. Holt’s ideas are reasonable, but I do not agree with them.

In the school systems, the state decides the hours spent in class and the days the students attend. In this system the students are required to come on those days required and spend that certain amount time in school. If the student decided the time, they would go when they wanted and spend the time they wanted there, even if it meant one hour. The student most likely with this choice, would pick the least amount time spent there and would go only on the days they felt like going. For example, if there was a great new game out, does one really thinks they would leave it to go to school, when they do not have to.

The next point is if the student had the choice of picking what they learned would they really pick any thing at all? For many students today they would rather not have to learn what is required. So what makes anyone think they would pick what to learn when they do not even want to learn it in the first place? One solution that a lot of people recommend is to make the class more entertaining. How can a person ensure that it will be entertaining to the students when they have that brand new game at home.

In addition to that, having the student decide the schedule and time of classes will not only create problems with attending school, but being at different paces in school. There would not be the order that schools have today.  So when it comes to having the student decide it should be the school system that makes the final decisions.

There would no order in the school system. I believe they should not allow students to change the scholastic system.
