Spanking Goes a Long Way

On July 25, 1998, a columnist named James Bell brought up a very important parenting issue, whether to spank children or not. James expressed in, “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child,” that spanking was a very positive solution when it comes to punishment. James Bell is right, I feel spanking is one of the best ways to show some order to children’s behavior. Like Bell said spanking is one of the things that 76% of people grow up with. As an example, that is exactly what my parents did with my brother and me, and it work on us. For the day that I have kids this is the method I chose to make sure that they keep in line. For the simple fact that I know that it will benefit them in the long run and help them to realize that these acts where done to insure that their life is a positive one.

I believe in spanking but not like the people that take it a step further. Spanking to me is considered a tap on the butt with the hand or a paddle, but not a kick or a punch. When it comes to showing some punishment to children, parents should never hit their children in the face or anywhere but the rear-end. Also when it comes to punishment the children should only receive up to three spanking for each misbehavior and it should but a little hard but not pulling back the hand all the way behind the head to hit. Spanking should be reasonable, such as smacking a mosquito on your arm.

One down fall to spanking is spanking the children in public. Spanking in public is not appropriate; spanking should be left a home in the privacy. The parents’ display of discipline in public may make onlookers uncomfortable to the point where such an act of discipline becomes a crime. For example at my job I see parents show these disciplinary acts and it almost makes me believe spanking is something that is immoral. Deep down inside I know that spanking is the right choice but not in public.

At my job I on occasion I witness children being disciplined it almost makes me believe spanking is something that is immoral, deep down inside I know that spanking is the right choice. If a child misbehaves it is not immoral to punish them, it is immoral to abuse a child. What we need to do is stop child abuse not disciplining a child, I strong stand for James Bell’s beliefs on discipline.

That is exactly what my parents did with my brother and me, it worked on us. When I have kids this is the method I will choose to make sure they behave. I believe in spanking, but not when people take it a step further. Spanking, to me, is considered a tap on the butt with the hand or a paddle. When it comes to punishing children, parents should never hit their children in the face or anywhere but the bottom. Children should only receive up to three spanking for each misbehavior, and it should be a little hard. Spanking should be reasonable, such as smacking a mosquito on your arm.

One downside to spanking is spanking children in public. Spanking in public is not appropriate; spanking should be left at home in privacy. The parents’ display of discipline in public may make onlookers uncomfortable to the point where such an act of discipline becomes a crime.
